Hello District #1 members,

Hope everyone is well and safe.  Since there is no Rendezvous this year, the District is going to try to revive our Summer picnic.  The Date is August 1st and it’s going to be in West Hickory at the Harmony Twp. Community Ctr., 95 Center St., West Hickory, PA 16370.  After spending the day hiking or floating the River or just hanging out at the community center, which will be available all day. At 4:00 P.M. we will have a short meeting about the trapper school and Dist. business.  The meal will start at around 5:30. Andrew Hyde has volunteered to smoke some Pork and Baked Beans.  We will need to have you RSVP so we know how much food to buy. If you would like to bring a dessert item, feel free to do so.

Things to do; Hiking: Minister creek scenic overlook 5 mile hike on route 666 about 18 miles from West Hickory, Tidioute over look Route 337 off route 62 easy 1 mile hike 9 mile from West Hickory, Hearts Content Scenic Area there are several trails from a short 1mile though the virgin timber, The Tanbark trail 6.9 miles moderate travel, Toms run and ironwood loop easy travel 5.1 miles, Trails at Tionesta Dam 2 trails both easy short walks  8miles from West Hickory.

There are also trails to walk in the Cornplanter State Forest Just 5 or 6 mile from West Hickory.

A Google search will help you with directions and more places on trails nearby.

Canoe Or kayak on the river. If you have your own kayak or canoe, we will help to transport boats up river, Tidioute to West Hickory is about a 10-mile float and takes about 3- 4 hours if you paddle in the slow areas.

We would want people that need transport for West Hickory Boat launch to Tidioute to meet at the boat launch at the same time so we can make as few trips as possible, time to be determined

West Hickory to Tionesta is a 2-3- hour float again, if you paddle the slow areas

Camping in the area, there are many places you can camp for free, Contact Andrew Hyde, he can help you find a spot. There is also camping in Andrew’s yard.

 

There will be an after-picnic fire and trapping talk at Andrew’s house after the picnic for those interested, bring your own beverages.

 

This event should give people a chance to get out but also social distance the hall is big enough that we can have space and there is a shelter outside and a kid’s playground.
