As I said earlier, we will be very busy this year. We will once again hold our Gun, Trap and Knife Show @ the Blain Picnic Grounds on April 15. This show is in partnership with the Blain Fire Company, and the Blain Sportsmans Club. There will be lots of raffles, 50/50 drawings, the trappers will give away a gun as a door prize. We also have a trout derby going on for adults and kids, with 1000 trout being stocked that morning and a host of tagged trout for prizes. There will be vendors in the building and tailgaters outside, with lots of food starting with breakfast. Please see the flyer on this page for more info or call me.

We will also be doing a lot of work on our PTA Rendezvous at the Port Royal Fairgrounds in June of 2018. We need input and ideas from all our members in this endeavor, so please don’t be a stranger!  We are especially looking for unique one of a kind items for our “chinese auction” at Rendezvous. If anyone has something they would like to donate please contact me or Terry “Swamper” Swartz @ 717- 536-3733.

On  August 12, we will hold our district trapping school for young and old at the Shippensburg Fish and Game Club grounds. This all day event is free and the instructors are top notch! You will be provided with breakfast and lunch. We will cover all aspects of trapping and fur handling.

Please see the flyer on this page for complete info and an application. YOU MUST PRE- REGISTER FOR THIS SCHOOL!

Come September you will not want to miss our Newville Outdoor Show on Sept 16, 2017 at the Newville fairgrounds, just 5 miles from I-81 in Cumberland County. This show was super last year and we are working to top it this year. Along with all the sporting collectables, gun, trap, knife and antique vendors, we will have a jam packed demo and seminar schedule with special guests Mark Zagger from New York doing his coyote trapping program and well known trapper and predator caller Freddie McKnight showing you how to be a better predator hunter. There will also be the usual raffles, 50/50’s, an auction and a super raffle ticket ( see the ticket on this page) plus much more! Our many thanks goes out again to the great folks at Sleepy Creek Manufacturing for sponsoring our show !

As you may have heard District #8 is accepting your donations of “put up” fur to have tanned and make items such as fur teddy bears, fur puppies, hats, etc. These items are sold or raffled at our shows and events to help raise much needed funds our events. Your donation of even 1 pelt goes along way!  This was a success last year and I hope everyone will consider donating again. We are also seeking your back issues of trapping magazines that you no longer want, ( from 2000 to the present). We collect them and all the trapping supply dealers in District #8 have a box for young trappers to take for a few for free. It really helps the kids learn and stay interested. They may not have enough money to buy a book or dvd but they can always get some of these. My thanks to everyone who donated last year !

My last thoughts here are about our membership and getting more kids and young adults involved with the District. I am putting out an appeal to all our district members to think about how we can attract more young trappers and try to get more inactive members involved. We need to do something !! Our future depends on it. If anyone has an idea I would like to hear it. Please call me, email me or tell me at the meetings. I will be seeking the advice of some of our state officers on this matter to get their input. If I accomplish nothing else in my time as director, I would like to see more new faces and young blood at our meetings. Till next time, George.

Tom Sites Memorial Bench

On June 4, 2017 District #8 of the P.A. Trappers Assn met to dedicate a bench in honor of Tom Sites,at the Strawberry Hill Nature Center in Adams County P.A . Tom was a PTA Life member, former Director of District #8, PTA state Secretary, and was inducted into the PTA Hall of Fame in 2003 with his wife Jackie, longtime PTA state Treasurer. Tom’s dedication and leadership were second to none and will long be remembered in our District. We were very honored to have Tom’s family present to share this day with us.
